If only we could relive our memories, one I would go back to often would be September 2019 when I was in Paris. I knew while I was planning this trip that I wanted to spend as much time as possible exploring France’s capital. But there were also a few things I wanted to do outside of the city as well! Let me tell you about two of the day trips I took from Paris and the one that I wished I would have had time for.
Those who know me well know how much I love Disney so, of course, one of my stops had to be Disneyland Paris! I took the metro system there, which if I remember correctly took about an hour to get there and back. A word of warning though: make sure you have the correct ticket to get there! Paris and the surrounding areas have different metro tickets depending on where you are going. When I first got off at the station, my ticket that I had did not work to get out and guards were looking out for this exact thing. I ended up having to pay 35 euros since I essentially rode for free. After a few tears shed, I made my way down Main Street to Sleeping Beauty’s castle. I rode a bunch of rides such as Dumbo’s Flying Elephants, Mad Hatter’s Tea Cups, and It’s a Small World, watched parades and shows, and stayed until close to watch an illuminations show projected onto the castle. I am a rope drop to close Disney Adult, so if you fall into this category and ever travel to Paris, this is a must!
The day trip I tried to do, but ended up canceling was going to Mont Saint Michel. It is a little under four hours away from Paris. I wanted to go there because the abbey was used to design the castle in Tangled (I know…another Disney themed idea). When I was researching where to stay and other places to go during my stay there, there were a couple of places that stuck out to me: Rennes and Saint-Malo. Also, it was on the coast, and thought that would be very scenic. Don’t make the same mistake I did! Take this day trip so I can live vicariously through you!
When embarking on this day trip, I did not prepare myself for what I was about to experience. Versailles left me speechless. I spent the whole day and I left wanting to go back the next day! Too bad I had Disneyland to go to or I probably would have! Everyone I tell about my time here I always advise to use two days! The palaces were magnificent and the grounds were impeccable. I spent most of the time wandering the estate and even took a cat nap by the Grand Canal. There were also a bunch of school groups touring as well. All the little kids, speaking French, learning about their country’s history, a history that is older than America’s. I have been using my travel journal a lot to reminisce and write this but found a funny line where I wrote about the handsome groundskeepers around Versailles. 2019 Magen didn’t think she would settle down. Let’s all just laugh about that together.
I am always at a crossroads trying to plan my next trip. Do I go somewhere I haven’t been or do I go back to places that I love? Well, Paris would be one of the places that I left a little piece of myself in, along with the places I took day trips to. When I go back, you bet I will make my way back to Versailles and Disneyland, and hopefully get to visit Mont Saint Michel.
